U.S. immigration authorities say a group of men who had been on a hunger strike at a Miami detention center have resumed eating.
According to a status update filed Wednesday in Miami federal court, all the detainees resumed eating voluntarily Dec. 22, a day after a judge authorized restraining and force-feeding them through nasal-gastric tubes if it became necessary to save their lives.
Ten men from Bangladesh began the hunger strike Dec. 2 at the Krome Service Processing Center. Three previously resumed eating after the judge granted a petition from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security permitting involuntary blood draws and other medical procedures to monitor the detainees' health.
All were arrested in Texas in 2014 and 2015 while attempting to enter the U.S.
