A civilian jury has convicted a Fort Hood soldier of capital murder in the January 2010 slayings of a fellow Fort Hood soldier.
Jurors in a Coryell County state district court deliberated about four hours Monday before finding 22-year-old Army Pvt. Travis Vershun Brazil guilty. Since prosecutors weren't seeking the death penalty, Brazil is automatically sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
On Jan. 25, 19-year-old Pfc. Brandon Christopher Walker pleaded guilty to non-capital murder and accepted a life sentence in a deal with prosecutors in return for parole eligibility after 30 years in prison.
They were accused of fatally shooting 22-year-old Spc. Frank J. Schreiber and wounding his 22-year-old wife during a break-in and robbery at the Schreibers' home in Copperas Cove, near Fort Hood.
