Foxy Brown has again maintained her innocence in an alleged assault at a Pembroke Pines, Florida beauty supply store, except on Wednesday she did it in a Broward County court. The hip-hop diva (real name Inga Marchand) was charged with resisting an officer without violence and simple battery on Feb. 15 after she was accused of throwing hair glue and spitting at the store owner and then scuffling with cops after they were called to investigate. She was taken into custody and released on $1,500 bond, but then got into trouble with the New York City Department Of Probation because she was in Florida without permission.
While a New York City judge exercised leniency and didn't jail Brown for her breach of probation, the fact that she couldn't leave the state caused problems when she was scheduled to appear in court in Florida on the charges related to the beauty store incident. A bench warrant was issued for her arrest after she failed to show up on March 22.
Brown's hearing on Wednesday was scheduled for 9 a.m., but was moved to 1:30 p.m. because her flight from New York was late. Her lawyers said that she didn't miss the first court date intentionally, and explained that the arraignment notice was mailed to her old address in New Jersey and not her current residence in Brooklyn. While this apparent misunderstanding has now been cleared up, the "Ill Na Na" singer must return to Florida to stand trial in June.
Brown was silent in the courtroom, but AllHipHop.com reports that she told reporters outside that she would "stand up and fight and take care of this."
The rapper held a press conference in Brooklyn on Feb. 26 where she claimed that "the only crime I am guilty of committing is being a young black female celebrity in Broward County."
The 27-year-old Brown forgot to mention that the only reason that she's still a celebrity at all is because she keeps her name in the news by running afoul of the law and not through her music. She hasn't released an album since 2001's Broken Silence.
