The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by motorists who challenged discounted bridge tolls offered to select groups of New York City residents.
The justices on Monday left in place a lower court decision upholding the discounted tolls for Staten Island residents who cross New York City's Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Residents of parts of Queens also receive discounts on other city bridges.
Motorists in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut said that offering discounts to a select group of local residents violated their constitutional right to travel.
The case is Janes v. Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, 14-1400.
